The everlasting prologue of unrequited love
A child in their most lovely time in life warms a mother's heart with full of charms and makes her promise an everlasting love towards the child. However, those sweet moments don’t last forever and flow rather faster than we often want them to be. To my child, even if your mother is nosy about your life forever, I will still be feeling heartbroken seeing your baby pictures in twenty years, and be on my toes over a simple phone call from you, let’s plan for the time we will live separately in life through together.
The worries of figuring out how to set a new life direction as a mother deepen every day. But on the flip side, considering the fact that life is filled with unexpected things, it may not be so complicated after all. From the exponentially evolving artificial intelligence, climate change, to rapidly shifting geopolitical tensions of the world... nothing is ever predictable today. While facing the reality of childcare, I began to contemplate about the future of me and my child with the most fierce attitude. No one knows if the path we take will be laid in flowers or thorns. Despite such uncertainties, we wanted this issue to be a letter we leave for our children that can pass down this message: “I will blaze the trail for you that I’ve never been to. I hope that you can also find your own way and blossom this original and precious flower that’s you along the way.”
The reason for choosing <The Wizard of Oz> as the theme of the 1st issue was because the story reflects the new beginning adventure called motherhood that begins with the name, ‘mother.’ While the emerald city at the end of the yellow brick road and the Land of Oz, that Dorothy and her friends were eagerly seeking was just an illusion, we all know that through their time spent together they were able to grow up by supporting and leaning on to each other. We wish that POPOPO would be the starting point to overcome difficulties and gain courage to share one's flaws with each other. We wish that we could offer a turning point for a new beginning as someone with their own unique history before being a mother.
Even for the readers who are not mother or woman, we wish that they could find some meaningful lines that can be an inspiration as well. Even after growing up to be an adult, the worries about career choices still remain and the fear of having to make choices grows bigger every day. The representative of Women’s Life School Lee Jae Un asks earnestly, “It is your right to dream for a better life through better work.” We hope that POPOPO doesn’t just end up as an ornament on a bookshelf. We hope that the stories of POPOPO can permeate into your life as a record of inspirations from the questions and stories of the book, or as a time of discovering your potential as you battle through the struggles of today and eventually reach where you want to be over this rainbow.
